Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the second deputy mufti of Uganda, has launched a nationwide Iftar programme under the Aayyi Bin Ka'b Charity Foundation to provide meals to Muslim faithful during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The initiative, carried out in mosques across the country, ensures that fasting Muslims can break their fast with dignity at sunset, while fostering community unity and compassion.
This year, the programme has expanded to cover new regions, including the West Nile sub-region, benefiting several mosques and underserved communities.
Hajj Ashiraf Zziwa, spokesperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, said the initiative exemplifies the spirit of charity and brotherhood central to Ramadan.
Community leaders have praised the programme for easing the burden on fasting families, strengthening faith, and reinforcing the values of inclusivity and solidarity within Muslim communities.
